Payment Information in Argentina

Payment Methods

Cash vs. Card: It is recommended to carry local currency (Pesos) in Argentina for smaller purchases or for use in places that do not accept debit/credit cards. However, debit/credit cards are accepted in many locations and usually offer a good exchange rate. As international fees may apply, please notify your bank before traveling to avoid debit/credit card issues.

Currency Exchange

Bringing Dollars: US Dollars are often preferred and can offer better exchange rates.

Changing Money: You will find a Cambio Baires exchange house 200 meters from the Hilton hotel.

Safety tips

Whilst Buenos Aires is generally safe for tourists, it's advisable to stay aware of your surroundings, avoid displaying valuables, and use reputable transport services. As in most major international cities, it is  best to avoid isolated areas, especially at night.

Electricity and adapters

The standard electrical plug in Argentina is Type I, operating at 220V/50Hz. Make sure to bring appropriate adapters for your devices.

Dining and local cuisine

Argentine cuisine is famous for its beef, especially asado (barbecue), but also empanadas, Milanesa, and dulce de leche desserts. Dinner typically starts around 21:00, and many restaurants may not open until after 19:00PM so make sure to call to ensure that the restaurant accommodates an early dinner.

Weather

In November, Buenos Aires typically has warm and pleasant weather, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 27°C (63°F to 81°F) with occasional rain. We would recommend bringing a lightweight jacket for the evenings.

Tipping Culture

Tipping is customary in Argentina. In restaurants, it's common to leave around 10% of the total bill if service is not included. For taxi drivers, rounding up the fare or leaving small change is appreciated.
